Chatting with the AI assistant

Learn how to give effective instructions to the AI so it modifies your Excel correctly.

  1. Step 1

    Be specific with cells

If you want to touch a particular cell, mention it: "In cell B5 put the sum of B1:B4". The assistant understands natural language but produces better results with explicit references.

  2. Step 2

    Mention sheets by name

If you have multiple sheets, tell it which one to use: "In the Sales sheet...". The assistant already knows the structure of your workbook (sheets, columns, data types) before each message.

💡 Tip: Ask it to "summarize my workbook" if you want to see what it understands about your file.
  3. Step 3

    Use concrete examples

Instead of "clean the table", say "delete rows where column E is empty". Instead of "make a chart", say "create a column chart with sales by month".

  4. Step 4

    Review what it did

After each action, the assistant shows a message like "Set value B5 = 100". If something looks wrong in the Excel, tell it what to change — it keeps the conversation context.

  5. Step 5

Ask for big things in a single instruction

The assistant can chain many operations: "Clean the empty rows, sum the totals by category in a Summary sheet, add a column chart and apply currency formatting". It plans and executes step by step.

  6. Step 6

Bring your own API key (BYOK)

In Settings you can configure your personal OpenAI key. When active, tokens are billed to your OpenAI account directly — no plan limits.

💡 Tip: Useful if you're going to process many files or long requests.
